We all know about the writer's strike that has been plaguing Hollywood the past few months; it has caused serious panic in the industry. Many shows are being closed down, re-runs are playing constantly... even the late night talk shows have gone into hibernation once they lost their writers.
The latest fear is that since the Golden Globes award show was cancelled as a result of the strike, that the Oscars is going to be cancelled as well. This would certainly be a historic event, and one must recognize the power these writers have over what goes down in Tinsel Town.
What we might not have realized is how worried some fashion designers are going to be if the Oscars do not air. These red carpet events serve as an enormous women's fashion show. As the celebrities wear the designers' most impressive gowns, they are basically advertising for the designer at no cost.
